Restorative Justice

There is a Restorative Justice Movement going on; much as, historically, there has been a Labor Movement, a Civil Rights Movement, and a Women’s Movement.

Dr. Martin Luther King’s March on Washington, D.C. was a once-in-a-lifetime experience back in the 1960’s. That event had a powerful and positive effect on the Civil Rights Movement.

The NATIONAL CONVOCATION OF JAIL AND PRISON MINISTRY brings advocates of “Restorative Justice” together most every year and it is having a powerful and positive effect on all those involved. For us, Restorative Justice means that the offender as well as the victim and the whole community must be restored after a crime has done its damage.

The National Convocation which was held in St. Louis, MO, May 15-18, 2011 was a great success. This year, the Convocation will be in Scranton, PA, June 10-13, 2012. Once again, we expect great things.(Watch for more information.)

We are a completely volunteer group with no paid staff. It is a marvel that in 30 years we have missed holding a Convocation only two times! That speaks loudly of the value the participants put on these annual gatherings.
